RTE star Kathryn Thomas broke down in tears on last night’s Operation Transformation during leader Clare Scanlan’s weigh-in.
Clare lost her eldest son Darra (15) four years ago when he died from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome.
Since his death, the 39-year-old, from West Cork, felt she had just been existing rather than living life and decided to join the RTE One show to tackle her weight.
Last night on the show Thomas and expert Dr Ciara Kelly broke down crying when it was revealed that Clare had lost four-and-a-half pounds — more than twice her target for the week.
Operation Transformation expert Dr Eddie Murphy said: “You didn’t look for somebody new, you found your old self and that is what transformation was about for you.
“When it comes to bereavement and loss, what you are doing offers a light of hope for other families in traumatic grief… I just think you are an amazing, amazing person.”
Afterward Clare sang the classic soul song Lean on Me in her message to her followers.
She told viewers of the show: “It has been life-changing.”
